In addition to his doctorate in Jewish Education and Administration earned at the Azrieli Graduate Institute of Yeshiva University and numerous academic and practical accomplishments to benefit the community at large, Rabbi Skurowitz brings with him the heart of a social worker and has, in fact, earned an MSW from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work of Yeshiva University. He is deeply concerned with the potential and progress of each individual child and intuitively understands that the school's success is contingent upon meeting the needs of our students as unique individuals. Shari Silverstein, M.A. - General Studies Principal Nechama Sheinkopf, M.S. - Judaic Studies Principal Mrs. Nechama Sheinkopf began her career as an elementary school Judaic Studies teacher. After spending 20 years in the classroom, including 10 years at Brauser Maimonides Academy, she discovered that the absence of a standardized approach to Judaic education prevented her students from maximizing their potential as skillful learners. Her dedication to her profession served to inspire her to create a tool, the "Basic Competency Test" to measure annual growth and set the stage for a standardized annual Judaic curriculum. Developed at BMA, the instrument has since been acquired and utilized at other schools as well, and is one reason why Mrs. Sheinkopf was a recipient of the nationally recognized JESNA Steinhardt/Greenspoon Master Teacher award. Roni Kurtz, M.S. - Early Childhood Director Mrs. Roni Kurtz, a native Floridian and product of a Jewish Day School education, spent her senior year of high school learning in Israel at Machon Gold Teacher's College. Following her year in Israel, Mrs. Kurtz attended Brandeis University where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Education. She began her teaching career as a Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten teacher at the AJ Heschel School in New York City, where she was mentored by some of the top educators in Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Kurtz then continued to work with young children as a Kindergarten Teacher at Hillel Academy in Pittsburgh and as a 3rd grade teacher at the Kellman Academy in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Upon returning to South Florida with her young family, Mrs. Kurtz moved to Hollywood and began teaching 1st grade at Brauser Maimonides Academy in 1996. While teaching at Brauser Maimonides Academy, she received her Masters Degree in Reading Education from Florida International University. Mrs. Kurtz then accepted the Early Childhood Director position in 2004. Since assuming that role, she has built upon the department's developmental approach to Early Childhood Education and integrated Jewish values and traditions along with a love of learning into all aspects of the program. Michelle Moses, CPA - Controller It has been over ten years that Mrs. Michelle Moses has functioned in the capacity of administrator at BMA. A certified public accountant by training, she came to this position after seven years in the corporate world, based in New York and Florida. Mrs. Moses handles all aspects of business at BMA including human resources, managing tuition contracts, dealing with parents in all financial matters, and creating and managing the school's considerable budget. She accomplishes these tasks in accordance with her own impeccable professional standards and in a fiscally sound manner, in accordance with the highest principles and values expected from a Jewish Day school. Ellen Hodkin, M.S. - Student Services Director Ellen Hodkin is a graduate of New York University with a BS in Education. She was certified in New York to teach early childhood through 6th grade. She became very involved in Brauser Maimonides Academy during its formative years and was a member of the Executive Board until she accepted a position at the school. Each fall she looks forward to once again using her counseling skills and communication skills to promote a cohesive and positive educational experience for the children as well as working behind the scenes to encourage sensitivity and responsibility throughout the school.
