September Grades 1 - 8 Lunch Form
Based on our past experience and parent input, the following changes have been implemented for the coming year: • Grades 1 and 2 will now be offered soup and salad bar. • Early Childhood students will receive tossed salad and fresh fruit as a part of their daily lunch. • Tuesday lunch for grades 1-8 will be provided by Mozart Café by Avigdor. • We will be testing a new pizza caterer for the first month or two. There are occasions when the caterer may send a substitution for scheduled lunch item. Lunches are prepared fresh daily; if the food is not to the caterer’s liking or standard, he will not send it and another item will be sent in its stead. We have requested that on these seldom instances, the replacement item be similar (not to replace chicken with fish, but with another type of chicken dish). The caterer has been very responsive and will work with us to meet our student’s needs. Please keep in mind that these are catered lunches prepared for many schools. We will continue to work very closely with the caterer on a daily basis to ensure that we are getting the freshest, healthiest and most varied menus possible for our children. or call her at 954-989-6886. BMA IS CURRENTLY A TREE NUT-AWARE ENVIRONMENTOur school has students with serious tree nut allergies. In order to ensure a safe environment for all our students, BMA is a Tree Nut-Aware environment.
Being completely Nut- Free (as opposed to Nut-Aware) would disallow any outside food on the BMA campus. Since many of our current families opt to send lunch for their children, and we would like to continue this policy, being Nut-Free was not an option. We realize that being Nut-Aware may be inconvenient for some families, but the safety of ALL our students is of utmost importance to us. Please review the following guidelines and plan your child(ren)’s lunches and snacks accordingly:
As peanuts are not an issue for any of our students at this time, peanut butter (but not peanut products) will be allowed on campus. Children may not bring in the following:
• Any type of tree nut (cashews, almonds…) • Chocolate, granola or snack bars containing any type of nuts • Cookies containing any type of nuts • Fruit and nut bars • Any product indicating nuts as an ingredient • Any product that is labeled as being produced in a factory that produces any type of nut products.
Please be sure to read the packaging on all lunch and snack products carefully before sending them to school with your child(ren). If a child brings in a “nut” item, it will be taken away. As always, there is a no sharing food policy; this too will be strictly enforced.
The safety and well being of each and every one of our children is extremely important to us. Failure to comply with this change in policy may be putting someone else’s child in grave danger. Please help us in creating an equally safe environment for everyone. At BMA we are always trying to encourage healthy eating habits. Please make wise food choices for o your child and encourage them to do the same.
*Please carefully check all packages each time you shop. Products do tend to change their packaging depending on the facility where the product is being produced. If the package indicates that the product is “processed in a facility that may contain tree nuts” they are not allowed.
