Our Educational Philosophy encompasses the three strands represented in our school logo: Academic Excellence, Religious Commitment, and Character Development. By uniting these three areas of education BMA is able to create an environment where Academic Excellence, Religious Commitment and Character Development come together to produce happy, accomplished and confident children. Our students understand that conducting oneself ethically and with compassion is equally as important as the success of their endeavors. General Studies BMA is accredited by AISF, SACS and CITA. We meet or exceed the Florida Department of Education Sunshine Standards in every grade in Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts. In recent years our school-wide performance testing scores have risen and now average close to the 90th percentile in both Language Arts and Mathematics.
An individualized approach to education, along with a unique combination of teaching strategies, enables our children to excel beyond conventional expectations. • We recognize that every student is unique and tailor the curriculum and instruction to address their individual differences. • Advanced classes in Language Arts and Math are offered in grades 1-8. Middle School also has advanced Science and Social Studies courses. • Teachers create lessons that include both independent and cooperative activities so students can learn to work in groups as well as on their own. • We provide arenas for interpersonal competition where the children can independently set, strive for and attain personal goals. • We motivate academic success with positive reinforcement and instill our children with a sense of pride and academic confidence. • SmartBoards are used in the Elementary and Middle School classrooms to enhance learning through an interactive and technological approach.
Judaic Studies Our carefully crafted Judaic Studies program is designed to develop a solid base of knowledge and skill and inspire lifelong emunah (belief) and bitachon (faith). We instill our students with a love of Torah and Judaism while maintaining high academic standards.
• Hebrew Language is introduced to our students in Early Childhood through our Hebrew immersion and Chalav u’Dvash programs. It is further developed in Elementary School with Tal-Am and in Middle School with the NETA curriculum. • We created specialized testing to track our student’s learning and ensure that the Judaic Studies skills and concepts are being mastered. These tests have been adopted by schools nationwide and are used as a standard for Judaic learning. • In addition to having daily T’fillah, we also teach the meaning of the prayers so the children have an appreciation for, and an understanding of, what they are saying. • We inculcate a sense of religious commitment by celebrating milestone events. In first grade there is a beautiful Chag haSiddur where the children proudly receive their first Siddur; the second grade has a Chag haChumash to excite students and introduce them to the text. This family atmosphere continues throughout the years and many students have their Hanachat Tefillin in school with their families, friends and teachers.
We treat every student as an individual, addressing each child’s specific needs and inspiring him/her to connect with his/her Judaism in a personal way. The Rebbeim and teachers relate to their students outside of the classroom – through group get-togethers, personal lunches, conversations and Shabbatonim. These mentoring relationships take the child’s Jewish experiences beyond the classroom and turn them into a vibrant and living Jewish commitment. Middot At BMA we believe that to educate the whole child we must create a learning atmosphere that enables children to grow intellectually, spiritually and socially. Our Middot program focuses on developing a clear sense of values inspired by the Torah. Each month a specific middah is highlighted. Students share experiences and thoughts on how to incorporate these virtues into their daily lives. They discuss issues such as honesty, kindness, tzedakah and responsibility. An emphasis is placed on having respect for teachers and parents as well as peers and self. These thoughts are carried through the month and the children are taught how to integrate them into day-to-day life.
